Kalanchoe Plant

Kalanchoe is an evergreen plant native to Madagascar- Africa. This plant commonly grown in homes in the Caribbean and Jamaica typically need to be protected from frost, also grown outdoors in part sunlight. intense sun can cause the leaves to burn. This Kalanchoe species requires proper nutrition, without which the phylloclades show deficiency symptoms such as crippled growth and pustule-like lesions. 

Kalanchoe has been used for curative purposes for a long time. For this reason, the specie of kalanchoe known as Bryophyllum daigremontianum is popularly called “miracle leaf”. Goethe (a famous novel German writer and statesman, 1749 –1832) is said to have used their healing properties – he ate one tablespoon of “baby plants” of these species daily, for body rejuvenation. This is the very beginning of the story about the healing properties.

Kalanchoe pharmacologic properties

In traditional medicine, some kalanchoe species have been used to treat ailments such as infections, rheumatism and inflammation. Kalanchoe extracts also have immunosuppressive effects and being used as a traditional treatment for hypertension.  people noticed quickly outstanding capability of the plant to heal wounds and mitigate inflammations, cure cold, be helpful in cold-related diseases and act as a preventive remedy in the flu epidemic period. In a short time, the succus and the kalanchoe succus ointment were enrolled in some state register of pharmaceutical drugs and in the beginning the plant was used only as a topical treatment for persistent wounds, fistulas, burns and sores. Kalanchoe has an outstanding capability for healing wounds and mitigating inflammations. The fresh mashed kalanchoe leaves can heal a wound and stop severe pain. Kalanchoe succus can be used to cure skin rash, eczema and other skin diseases.

In the early 1960s scientific and research health facilities were introduced to the unique healing qualities of the kalanchoe plant. Laboratory research and clinical investigations provided repeatable sustained proof. Additional experiments demonstrated its efficacy while identifying it as safe to use.

The succus is extracted from the fleshy leaves and then is prepared to preserve its potency. Kalanchoe's active ingredients & Biochemical composition

The succus is extracted from fleshy and pulpy leaves and stems which is 94% water, it is then prepared with specificity. The kalanchoe succus has a variety of useful properties because of the large availability of biologically active agents. This activity is based on the exceptional combination of chemical compounds in its composition. The succus contains compounds such as: flavonoids (quercetine, kaempferol); organic acids (malic, acetic, citric and oxalic) ; tannins; polysaccharides; some enzymes (e.g. malic dehydrogenase, oxalic carboxylase); vitamins (including C ,P and K); mineral salts, micro- and macroelements (aluminium, ferrum, magnesium, calcium, copper, silicon, manganese). Flavonoid glycosides have P-vitaminic activity. It means that they exert bactericidal and choleretic effects which helps to eliminate toxic and radioactive agents from the body. Below are the key ingredient elements of the succus. 

 

Tannins give to the plant binding, bactericidal, anti-inflammatory and hemostatic properties.                         

Enzymes are essential participants of metabolism, acting in it as the catalysts.   

Vitamin C also plays an important role in the metabolic process, particularly in the oxidation process, at the cellular level and increases anti-infective resistance, also, it is a well-known “fighter” for the immune system.

Vitamin P strengthens vessel walls, acts in a highly productive tandem with the vitamin C, as it helps not only to keep it in the body, but also enhances its properties.         

Vitamin K enhances the antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties of Kalanchoe.

Our specially cultivated new species of Bryophyllum Daigremontiana

Kalanchoe is a genus of over 125 species of succulent mainly native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. The section Bryophyllum – formerly an independent genus contains species such as Kalanchoe pinnata and Kalanchoe daigremontiana. These species use asexual reproduction which does not involved the fusion of gametes or change in the number of chromosomes.    

Over the years of growing and research the plant, we have studied the properties of the plant and improved its active ingredients to what we believe are its maximal levels. So, this new species can now be used sustainably in various products, leveraging its antioxidant, anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities.
